5 Spiritual Rituals to do this Weekend to Celebrate The Summer Solstice & The Solar Eclipse

About The Summer Solstice & The Solar Eclipse

Ushering in a new season, “in the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky” (source: Almanac). Simultaneously, the Solar Eclipse is happening during the same weekend, which makes it doubly-impactful (on a spiritual level).

In case you aren’t aware, “A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the Earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight. This occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned. Such alignment coincides with a new moon indicating the Moon is closest to the ecliptic plane” (source: Wikipedia). As shared by world-renowned Astrologer, Susan Miller, “Solar eclipses tend to create new beginnings and bright new opportunities. Usually, they are exciting, are often very positive, and bring news out of the blue.”

As we transition from Spring to Summer, it’s a great opportunity to use this special time to meditate, clear out any toxic or negative energy, and reflect on your deeper desires and wishes. If we look at it metaphorically, Spring is the time when we sow the seeds of our dreams; whereas, Summer is when we reap what we sowed. By shifting our focus toward the spiritual side of life right now, we can harness the transformative power of the Summer Solstice and the Solar Eclipse, to bring us joy, healing, and abundance.

Write Positive Intentions in a Journal

Writing down our dreams is one of the most powerful actions we can take in creating the life we want to live. To help you magnetize your wishes into your life, use this weekend to spend some time writing down positive intentions in a journal. Allow yourself to reflect on every aspect of your life – from personal growth to relationships to your career, and beyond.

Whatever areas you want to improve, use this time to get clear on your path. Setting an intention is similar to a business creating a mission statement – it gives your mind (and the Universe) a direction and a purpose, which helps you manifest your desires.

Charge Your Crystals

Crystals have been used in spiritual rituals and for meditation and healing purposes for centuries. While their healing benefits have not been scientifically proven yet, many believe that they have the ability to store and transfer energy. This is why the idea of charging your crystals is so important. In addition to cleansing their vibration, the purpose of charging crystals is to infuse them with your intention (which is thought to amplify their power).

As shared by Bustle, “Every crystal is believed to have its own unique vibrational healing energy, so simply being around them could possibly offer positive effects. But if you learn how to program crystals with your intentions, you can get even more out of every stone you work with and open yourself up to the real magic that they have to offer. The best part is that doing so is easy, so even a beginner to the world of crystal healing can make it happen.”

The ideal way to charge your crystals is to start by cleansing them in a bowl of sea salt water (for a few hours). Then place the crystal outdoors in the sunshine to allow it to dry. This practice is said to be an effective way to clear the energy of the crystal.

After it is cleansed, hold the crystal in your hands and get into a meditative state. Spend some time imagining yourself sending loving, healing energy to the crystal. Mentally communicate your intentions to the crystal, as a way to give it a higher purpose of bringing your dreams to you.

Take a Rejuvenating Bath with Epsom Salt & Essential Oils

To boost your mood, relax your mind, and detox your body, take a warm bath using Epsom salt and essential oils (like Ylang Ylang). As shared by doTERRA, “Ylang Ylang is also known for its uplifting effects and is a great oil to apply when in need of an elevating boost. Soak your stresses away with an incredible bath that will invigorate your senses and promote relaxation.”

In addition to its aromatherapeutic benefits, Ylang Ylang is also reported to boost the health and beauty of hair and skin as well. It is a very popular essential oil that is used in fragrances too, as it is said to calm and uplift our moods.

The Epsom salt is often used by athletes after exercising, as it’s believed to reduce inflammation in the body and to help the body naturally eliminate unhealthy toxins. Adding 2 cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and soaking in it for 20-minutes not only helps you unwind, but it can also help detoxify your body.

Sage Your Home To Clear Away Negative Energy

Used in many cultural rituals around the globe for thousands of years, the practice of smudging (or saging your home) is known to be a good way to clear away negative energy.

Open your windows before burning sage in your home, as this allows the fresh air to come into the space. When walking through your home, say aloud a mantra such as “I clear my home of toxic thoughts, feelings, and vibrations. I welcome positive energy, love, and light into this space.”

After smudging your home, it can feel lighter, more joyful, and peaceful. This practice is recommended weekly, or whenever you have someone visiting your home (as each person carries their own “vibration”).

Practice The Art of Forest Bathing

Another way to celebrate the Summer Solstice and the Solar Eclipse is to practice the art of Forest Bathing. Essentially, this is about spending time in nature. Whether you head into a forest for a few hours of hiking and meditation, or you sunbathe in your garden – spending time outdoors not only boosts your sense of well-being, but it has been scientifically-proven to help heal your body and relieve mental stress.
