Being a woman has its own set of challenges (and I’m not talking about the “glass ceiling”). We can probably all agree that for one week of the month we feel moody, cranky, and irritable. Not to mention – we experience bloating, cramping, and anxiety. While we all experience the frustrating things about getting PMS, the big question is – what can we do to feel better every day (not just during “that time of the month”)?
Creating Positive Habits
In collaboration with Pamprin, today’s self-help guide inspires you to harness the power of positivity to change your life (and make you happier). Because we believe in creating positive habits, we’re encouraging you to join us in the 21-days of Positivity Challenge.
Learn techniques that will help you reshape your mind, body, and soul in just 3 weeks. By taking care of your self each day, you’ll not only be able to become happier, you’ll also look and feel better too.
This 7-step process should be repeated for 3 weeks until you’ve engrained these positive habits into your life.
Day 1: Start today with 3 positive self-affirmations.
Attach your list to your mirror. Read them aloud every day. Add to the list every day. You can also start a journal that is exclusively used to write positive self-affirmations in. Become your own biggest cheerleader. Focus on your strengths, talents, and passions. What drives you? What makes you happy? What inspires you? What do you love about yourself (it could be physical, mental, etc.)? Write these down!
Day 2: Find positive company.
Who are the stars in your social circle? Who builds you up? Stick with the stars and become one. While we can’t always escape the “Debby Downers” in life, it’s up to us to decide how much time we spend with them. If you have friends or family members that have a negative outlook, do your best to spend less time with them. When you are around them, try to mentally filter out what they’re saying by reminding yourself, “this is how they think, it’s not what I believe in.”
Day 3: Make a list of things for which you’re grateful.
An attitude of gratitude is a sure fire way to attract positive vibes. Many self-help gurus, successful leaders, and life coaches talk about the benefit of gratitude. Focusing on that which you’re grateful for not only helps reframe situations in your mind (by dwelling on the positive), it also helps you keep your heart open. Start writing those thank you letters.
Day 4: Give yourself and others an “atta girl (boy)”.
When you give encouraging words, you also receive them. Have you ever noticed that when you show people that you’re appreciative of them, they respond positively? You motivate people to be their best when you express gratitude and encouragement. Instead of criticizing someone, focus on their positive attributes, especially if you want to bring out the best in them.
Day 5: Seek and you will find.
We are responsible for choosing our perception. Look for the good, and you’re 100% guaranteed to find it. Ever heard of “the glass is half-full” analogy? Depending on how you look at a situation, you have the power to choose how you perceive it. If you’re dealing with an issue, you can see it as a problem or as a challenge. By focusing on the latter, you can then think creatively about finding a solution. After the issue is resolved, you can see how the challenge catalyzed your growth or brought you new insight into a situation.
Day 6: Find what brings you joy.
Unlike fleeting pleasure, joy is consistent. We cultivate it internally. Whether you love pampering yourself with luxurious bath & body products, enjoy doing your makeup, or just like taking care of yourself, doing what you love brings you joy. When you find the joy in everyday moments, you radiate happiness and inspire others to do likewise.
Day 7: Stop to smell the roses. Give one away.
Be present minded enough to give and receive life’s simple gifts. That could mean volunteering for a charity that you’re passionate about, helping someone in a time of need, or just doing something selfless.
Hit “replay” and make the above 7-steps habitual in your everyday life. Positive thinking leads to positive actions, and by doing these steps on a daily basis, you reinforce positive habits in your life.
