How To Boost Your Energy

Short of downing a shot of espresso, there are a number of (healthier) ways to boost your energy. Whether you need a jolt to wake you up in the morning, had a late night (but still want to look and feel rejuvenated), or are seeking a quick pick-me-up to get you through a long day on the job, here are several tips to getting you revved up in just minutes.

How To Boost Your Energy

BUST A MOVE. “An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion.” So, get up from your desk, and head outdoors for a brisk walk. Just a 10-minute stroll will help give your body a natural pick-me-up when you’re feeling tired. Breathing fresh air and getting your blood flowing through cardiovascular activity instantly energizes you. On days when you have more time, squeezing in a 45-minute workout (combining cardio and muscle-training) helps increase your metabolism, which helps power your cells (leading to a boost of energy).

DRINK UP. Rather than reaching for that cup of coffee (which will only give you a short burst of energy, followed by a crash), opt for the antioxidant-rich and reduced-caffeine alternative of green tea. Not only does green tea help fight the aging process (which means you’ll look younger), it also gives you sustained energy without a jittery side-effect. If you prefer the taste of sweet beverages, simply add a teaspoon of honey or agave nectar to the tea.

SWEET TOOTH? Surprisingly, researchers at UCSD have determined that a very small amount (5-grams per day) of dark chocolate has been found to boost physical endurance. But don’t over do it on these sweet treats, or you’ll go into a sugar-crash all too quickly.

REV YOUR ENGINE. In addition, herbal remedies like (ginseng capsules) are an easy way to boost your energy, especially when you’re on-the-go and short on time.

GET MINTY FRESH. And if all else fails, take a whiff of mint. Peppermint in particular is known to stimulate the part of your brain that helps boost your energy. Whether you prefer to apply a mint-flavored lip balm, pop a curiously-strong Altoid in your mouth, or simply smell a mint-scented candle, these would all help boost your energy and revitalize you in no time.
