Have you ever noticed that inspiration often comes from the most unexpected places? That’s what smartwater discovered – when they looked up at the sky, they saw a different way to purify water. Living such busy lives (often filled with bustling activity, seemingly never-ending to-do lists, and various forms of technology), smartwater is encouraging us to take a break and find a new source of inspiration.

The smartwater #lookupsweepstakes wants to find out how you get inspired by looking at the sky. Does it instantly inspire you to update your home decor? Or perhaps you get a great new idea about a DIY project? Or maybe the sunset gives you inspiration for a fabulous cocktail recipe? Here’s how I became inspired when I looked up at the sky.
Being in Carmel, California, I often enjoy taking strolls throughout the quaint, coastal streets in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The unique architectural designs, lush landscaping, and picture-perfect home decor themes are often times what gives rise to tackling an interior decorating project in my house.
Walking around the area, I happened to look up at the vivid blue sky peeking through a grove of shady trees, which perfectly off-set the crisp and clean looking, gray and white colored Cape Cod style house perched below. I’ve always been in love with traditional architecture and design, which is why this particular home caught my attention. With its classic gables, wood shingle siding, and beautiful window panes, gazing at the Cape Cod design (complemented by the deep blue sky above) gave inspiration to a home decorating project I had been thinking about for a while.
Living in a coastal community, I’m blessed with the opportunity to go to the beach whenever I want. On this particular day, the sky looked as though it was reflecting the deep blue sea below. With white capped waves crashing on the jagged rocks, the contrast of blues and whites gave me an idea.
One of my favorite aspects about Carmel, California is the fact that people take pride in the appearance of their homes. With blooming flowers proudly displayed in window boxes, Carmel is known for its quintessential charm, romance-inspiring designs, and timeless beauty.
Having taken the smartwater #lookupsweepstakes challenge, I was now fully inspired by the images I saw when I looked up, and ready to take on a bathroom decor update project that I had been contemplating for some time.
I already had white and powder blue seashell patterned wallpaper in my bathroom, but I hadn’t done much in the way of decorating with coastal inspired accessories. Inspired by the contrasting blue and white hues I saw throughout the places I visited in Carmel and Pebble Beach, I knew I wanted to bring in more of those colors into my bathroom, to give it a calming and tranquil ambiance.
The luscious white flowers I saw throughout Carmel instantly gave me the desire to bring the outdoors inside. To re-create the look of succulent white blooms, I visited a local craft store and picked-up an array of silk flowers (in a variety of blue and white hues), complemented by a rustic, white-washed tin vase.
To add an element of coastal living into the bathroom (and to give it that fresh ocean scent), I placed a seashell sea air reed diffuser next to the flower vase.
The ultimate way to add that coastal, seaside inspired look into my home was with wall art. From a wall sign that says “At The Beach” to a framed piece of art depicting fish and seashells, my bathroom was now complete.
