Beauty Secrets for Gorgeous Shiny Hair

While some lucky women might be born with perfect-looking hair, most of us have to work at it. While I’m grateful for having wavy hair, the moment the fog rolls in or there’s humidity in the air, I often feel like throwing on a hat. Since that’s not always practical, I’ve had to learn how to make my hair look great (despite the weather). Through years of research, product testing, and interviewing hair stylists, I’ve learned the secrets to gorgeous shiny hair.

To help you minimize frizz, boost shine, and improve the health of your hair, today’s beauty guide shares 5 secrets to gorgeous shiny hair. From must-have hair care products that strengthen and restore hair’s natural vitality to the best types of hair brushes that actually stimulate the scalp and smooth the cuticle, here are 5 of my fave beauty secrets.

Beauty Secrets for Gorgeous Shiny Hair

Beauty Secret #1: Use a Boar Bristle Brush

For years, I’ve regularly used a boar bristle brush. Not only does it exfoliate the scalp (which sloughs away dead skin cells and encourages a healthy scalp, which is the key to healthy hair), it also helps to carry your scalp oils through the hair, which naturally moisturizes your strands. I also find that using a boar bristle brush can help stimulate hair growth as well.

Beauty Secret # 2: Do a Weekly Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

Because most frizz happens when hair is sapped of moisture, it’s imperative to regularly hydrate dry hair. An intensive weekly deep conditioning hair mask revitalizes lackluster locks by infusing hair with essential moisture, nutrient-rich antioxidants, and vitamins. This is a great beauty treatment to reserve for the weekend when you have extra time. Just apply the deep conditioning hair mask to wet hair, wrap up in a shower cap, and relax for 20-minutes before rinsing out. You’ll instantly notice how much softer and more manageable your hair is.

Beauty Secret # 3: Blow-dry Hair with an Ionic Hairdryer

To smooth the cuticle (which reflects light better, making hair look shiny and radiant), an ionic hairdryer is a miracle-maker. As reported in an article by SELF, “ionic dryers that emit negative ions cause globs of H2O molecules to divide into smaller particles that evaporate faster”. The result is faster drying time, causing less damage to hair.

Beauty Secret # 4: Apply a Weekly Hair Glaze

A semi-permanent clear (or colored) hair glaze coats the shaft of the hair, making it have a more reflective and glossy appearance. Since these are easy to use (they can be applied in the shower) and wash out over several weeks (leaving no line of demarcation at the roots), they are a simple and effective way to minimize frizz, boost shine, and make hair look gorgeous. Plus, it can be used on color-treated hair.

Beauty Secret # 5: Apply Hair Oils Every Day

Just like you’d cleanse and hydrate your skin, your hair needs daily TLC too. To help keep hair soft, supple, and hydrated, a hair oil is a must-have for gals who tend to get dry, damaged, or frizzy hair. Some of my fave smoothing hair oils are jojoba oil, argan oil, and Moroccanoil. These can also be applied to the scalp (before bed-time), which helps to prevent flaky patches or dandruff.
