With Earth Day quickly approaching (on April 22nd), a great way to enjoy the occasion is to host a casual get-together in your home. From recycled glasses and vintage bowls to organic food and DIY party decorations, these eco-friendly entertaining ideas make planning an Earth Day Green Party simple, stress-free, and super-easy.

Eco-Friendly Entertaining Ideas for Earth Day

When putting together an Earth Day celebration, you’ll want to keep in mind a few key tips to planning the perfect Green Party. Be on the lookout for products that are made from recycled or sustainable materials (like glass or bamboo), organic foods (that are free of chemicals), and re-usable items that you already own (such as old wooden serving trays that be sanded to look new again).

Earth Day Party Décor

Instead of making floral arrangements for your table using cut fresh flowers, opt for potted plants (such as drought-tolerant Succulents) in recycled glass bowls.

Making hand-made crafts is not only a creative way to inject your personal style into your Green Party, it also minimizes your entertaining expenses and enables you to go green with your Earty Day party décor. In addition, these types of activities are fun for kids to get involved with as well.

Using scissors and recycled paper, cut-out a variety of shapes (like leaves and flowers). Next paint a variety of vibrant colors on each cut-out with eco-friendly, non-toxic craft paints. After the cut-outs are fully dry, punch a hole at the top of each one and string each piece together with organic cotton yarn or natural twine. Hang the garland above your table (connected to adjacent umbrellas and trees) or along your walls for instant color and a festive touch.

Earth Day Party Food & Beverages

To help your guests cool down on a warm day, nix the sugary sodas and opt for organic fruit juice instead. For those who want an adult beverage, serve them wine produced from organic grapes, like the delectable Pacific Rim Riesling.

Relative to party food, create dishes using organic meats (such as grass-fed beef and free-range chicken), vegetables that were not harvested using pesticides, and possibly herbs grown in your own garden.

To make life easier for your guests, serve bite-sized finger foods as appetizers (like Rachael Ray’s Tomato Caprese Skewers).

When it comes to the main meal, go family style and serve a variety of tasty dishes that your guests can scoop servings of themselves. This takes the pressure off you to serve everyone, and lets them feel more involved. Hearty servings of fresh green salads with roasted veggies, herb-marinated tofu, and main dishes, like Emeril Lagasse’s Organic Chicken.

Earth Day Entertaining Items

To help you serve up these scrumptious food and beverages, go with eco-friendly entertaining items, such as re-used vintage wine decanters, natural cutlery made from sustainable wood, and biodegradable bamboo plates.

Now that you’re in-the-know on how to be eco-friendly when entertaining, you can easily plan a festive Green Day party in celebration of Earth Day. Cheers to fabulous and Earth-friendly festivities!
