Gluten-Free Superfood Salad
If you’re gluten-sensitive, this is a salad that you’ll definitely love adding into your routine. During warmer Summer months, consuming more fruits and veggies is always a good idea. Not only do fruits contain vital nutrients (like antioxidants and vitamins), they also are full of water, which helps eliminate toxins and cools your body down. When you detox your body with good-for-you foods, you feel lighter, have more energy, and your skin looks glowing and blemish-free.
Gluten-Free Superfood Salad Ingredients:
- Mixed Greens
- Fuji Apples
- Pecans
- Gluten-Free Salad Dressing (Honey Balsamic flavor)
STEP 1: After washing and drying fresh mixed greens, put them in a bowl.
DID YOU KNOW? Greens are a good source of fiber, which aids in digestion, eliminating toxins and impurities from your body, and helping to clear up your skin. Consuming a daily serving of greens (like spinach, lettuce, and kale) will help to keep your skin and body looking its best.
STEP 2: Chop apple slices.
DID YOU KNOW? Apples are a great source of fiber, flavonoids, and antioxidants. Antioxidants combat free radicals, which cause aging in the skin. In addition to making your skin look better, they can also help aid in weight loss. “Apples also contain pectin, which is a type of fiber that acts as a prebiotic. This means it feeds the good bacteria in your gut.” [Source: Healthline]
STEP 3: Add a handful of pecans to the salad.
DID YOU KNOW? As reported by Shape magazine, “According to the National Pecan Shellers Association, pecans are high in healthy unsaturated fat and just a handful a day can lower “bad” cholesterol. They also contain more than 19 vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, B, and E, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. Just one ounce of pecans provides 10 percent of the Daily Recommended intake of fiber. Pecans are also rich in age-defying antioxidants. In fact, research from the USDA shows that pecans are the most antioxidant-rich tree nut and rank among the top 15 foods with the highest levels of antioxidants.”
STEP 4: Drizzle a gluten-free salad dressing (like this delicious Honey Balsamic) on top.
