In today’s fast-paced world, many of us strive to feel more energized, balanced, and resilient—but knowing where to begin can be overwhelming. Recently, in celebration of National Wellness Month, I explored an innovative approach to wellness through an epigenetic hair test, guided by Registered Nurse Kelsey Gorman, founder of Align with Kelsey.
I was first introduced to her through my Reformer Pilates studio in the Monterey Peninsula, as she was conducting tests for clients on the day I happened to be taking a class. Naturally, given my curiosity about science-backed wellness practices, I decided to give it a try. During our chat, I learned that her holistic philosophy blends clinical knowledge with root-cause wellness practices, empowering clients to make lifestyle choices that support long-term vitality.
Kelsey partners with Cell Wellbeing, a company specializing in epigenetic analysis. Unlike traditional medical diagnostics, this test doesn’t provide a diagnosis, but rather it offers a snapshot of how environmental and nutritional factors may be influencing your body at the cellular level. The process was surprisingly simple: within minutes, a few strands of hair (using the follicle) were scanned, and a comprehensive report was generated. This report highlighted nutritional needs, potential stressors, and suggested lifestyle adjustments to help bring my body back into alignment.
Epigenetics is the study of how lifestyle and environment influence gene expression. Our genes don’t change, but the way they “switch on and off” can be shaped by nutrition, stress, toxins, and even exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs). The test provided insight into which nutrients my body seemed to lack, foods that might be taxing my system, and environmental factors that could be impacting my well-being.
For example, my results suggested I should scale back on foods like tuna, almonds, and oats, while focusing on adding more supportive nutrients such as zinc, flaxseed oil, turmeric curcumin, papaya, and raw pumpkin seeds. By making these small but intentional adjustments, I’ve noticed a greater sense of balance in my daily routine. Within just a few days of making these changes, I noticed deeper, more restorative sleep, a boost in energy, fewer digestive disruptions, and a noticeable improvement in both mental clarity and memory.
One unexpected revelation was how strongly my body was reacting to EMF radiation, something most of us encounter daily. To reduce this load, I began introducing practical changes:
-
Installing a grounding mat under my desk to stay connected to the earth’s natural frequency.
-
Turning off WiFi at night and charging my phone in another room.
- Adding spirulina powder to my daily smoothie (which is rich in antioxidants) to help combat free radicals generated by EMF exposure.
-
Adding Shungite crystals near my router and adhering a (patented, FCC-certified) WaveBlock sticker to my phone.
While scientific consensus on EMF health effects is still evolving, these adjustments have given me peace of mind and a renewed sense of control over my environment. Given that we’re all exposed to EMF radiation regularly (from computers and cell phones to electric vehicles), using these tools made me feel I was at least taking a proactive step to combat their negative effects.
What I found most empowering about this experience was not just the personalized insights but the reminder that our daily choices, from the foods we eat to the environments we create, play a profound role in how we feel. The test reinforced the importance of nourishing the body with high-quality foods, minimizing toxins, and finding ways to restore balance in a technology-saturated world.
Epigenetic testing is not a substitute for medical care, but it can be a powerful educational tool. If you’re interested in improving your well-being and are curious about uncovering hidden stressors or optimizing nutrition, this non-invasive process may be worth exploring. When we take the time to listen to what our bodies need and respond with mindful changes, we step closer to living with greater energy, resilience, and joy.
