For the past couple weeks, the whole world has been buzzing about all the exciting spectacles taking place in Sochi. From watching the exquisite Opening Ceremony presentation to the plethora of winter sports competitions, the Winter Olympics have proven to be a dynamic and engaging series of events for spectators around the globe.
Whether you’re a Ted Ligety fan or have been cheering for Picabo Street, every Olympic and Paralympic athlete has their own unique story, filled with triumphs and failures. What’s most inspiring about each of the athletes that have competed in the Olympics is that they have all shared the same tenacity, determination, and commitment to excel. Although their chosen sports and personal backgrounds might differ completely, the commonality amongst these exceptional athletes is that they have all relied on a powerful support network to help them achieve their goals. Because of this, several of them have joined forces with Citi to give back to the communities that have supported them throughout the years.
Citi Every Step of the Way Program
In addition to being a Team USA sponsor, Citi has generously donated $500,000 to the U.S. Olympic Committee to help support the nation’s athletes through the Citi Every Step of the Way program. Originally introduced for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this beneficial initiative aids future athletes by helping them reach their full potential through U.S. Olympic, Paralympic and Community Programs.
Each of the nine U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes who are participating in the Citi Every Step of the Way Program have a different program that they are driving awareness for. Paralympic Alpine Skier, Alana Nichols, wants to help raise money for aspiring U.S. Paralympians; Sled Hockey Player, Rico Roman, strives to give back to our country’s veterans; and Figure Skater, Evan Lysacek, hopes to inspire a new generation of skaters from urban areas.
Citi believes that “together, we can nurture the next generation of U.S. athletes on their road from ambition to achievement.” While the Olympics might have come to an end, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes are still in need of your support.
