Known for attracting celebrities, Hollywood actresses, and public figures, New York Fashion Week is always a star-studded extravaganza that makes for the ultimate see-and-be-seen, paparazzi-worthy moments. That was definitely the case at the highly anticipated Kyle & Shahida debut runway show at Pier59 Studios.
Kyle & Shahida Brand Debuts at Fashion Week
At this year’s NYFW, Real Housewives’ star Kyle Richards and her Designer-Partner Shahida Clayton (pictured below) set the stage for the worldwide debut of their new brand. Having partnered to create a glamorous new ready-to-wear line called Kyle & Shahida, fashion week was the perfect time for the dynamic duo to reveal the stunning shop-now 45-piece collection they’ve put their heart and soul into.
From celebs like Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton to actress Garcelle Beauvais, TV personality Arika Sato, and fashion industry insiders (such as celebrity stylist Carson Kressley and fashion week creator Fern Mallis), the Kyle & Shahida runway show was certainly a buzzworthy spectacle straight out of a reality show.
For that matter – it came as no surprise that a bevy of Kyle’s castmates from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills were featured as models in the exciting runway show.
Real Housewives Stars Steal The Show at NYFW
From actresses, Denise Richards and Lisa Rinna to musical entertainer Erika Girardi (aka Erika Jayne) and public figures Teddi Mellencamp, Faye Resnick, and Dorit Kemsley, the gorgeous gals from reality tv strutted down the catwalk alongside professional models from top agencies. Making it even more of a family affair, Kyle also included two of her beautiful daughters, Sophia Umansky and Alexia Umansky in the show.
Aside from all the glittering celebs in attendance, the true stars of the show were the luxe-looking pieces that floated down the runway. From vibrant, colorful caftans and flowing maxi dresses to chic floral blazers and playful rompers, the collection is a dazzling array of cheery, tropical-inspired hues and dramatic modern silhouettes. Here are several of my favorite pieces from this new collection (which you can shop now from Kyle-Shahida.com).
Mixing beachy nautical motifs (like anchors and seashells) and exotic patterns (such as animal prints and tropical florals) with breezy silhouettes, several of the looks in the collection are designed to inspire you to jet set off to an exotic destination. Combining luxe fabrics (like vegan leather, silk, and satin) with bright cheery colors, each of the dreamy outfits is ideal for warm weather locales, whether you’re heading to Los Angeles, Miami, or The Bahamas.
Since Kyle Richards is known for making a statement with her wardrobe, she and Shahida infused elements of her glamorous style into each of the pieces. Rhinestone appliqués, metallic accents, and even sensual elements (like peek-a-boo tops with lace bralettes and sexy, curve-hugging bodysuits) were included in some of the designs.
Since Southern California is often known for its laid-back style, infusing an easy, effortless vibe was one of the keys to designing this collection. From tiered ruffled maxi dresses to day-to-night caftans that can take you from the pool to dinner, many of the pieces looked comfortable to wear.
Even if you aren’t planning on vacationing in a tropical beachside setting, there are a number of city-appropriate pieces in the collection as well. From sophisticated blazers and blouses to rockstar-worthy vegan leather pants and breezy palazzo pants, these versatile looks can easily take you from the city to the sea in style.
Kyle Richards was quoted as saying, “As a longtime fan of Shahida, I am beyond thrilled to be collaborating with her on our new line Kyle and Shahida. Our collection of chic ready-to-wear is beautiful, luxurious, flattering and comfortable. Our prints are inspired by our travels and love of animals and nature. I cannot wait for everyone to see what we have been working on!”
As exhibited by these photos, the contemporary ready-to-wear collection features a range of resort wear, separates, jumpsuits, rompers, dresses, and red carpet/evening looks. Inspired by nature and wildlife, Kyle and Shahida “incorporated that theme into their custom printed fabrics- tropical plants, florals, seashells, fish, butterflies, exotic birds and animals of the Serengeti.” Unlike most designer runway shows (which feature pieces from the upcoming season), the pieces shown at this show are now available to shop directly from the brand’s website.
One of my favorite takeaways from the show was the use of splashy, head-turning colors and statement-worthy prints. Bold florals, contemporary nautical prints, and even tropical patterns were a common theme amongst the pieces. These striking looks made each piece a showstopping look.
