The Wonderful World of SpirulinaYou’ve probably heard about the popular superfoods acai, kale, and wheat grass. But did you know about the wonderful world of spirulina?

It’s considered the “superstar of super foods” due to being packed with vital nutrients, and was even ranked number one on the “5 Foods That Can Add Years To Your Life” by AARP Magazine. But spirulina isn’t just for your grandparents (or parents, for that matter); it’s the perfect food supplement for people of all ages.

So where does this superfood come from? A factory or a farm? Nope… The ocean!

What is Spirulina?

It’s a blue-green algae that contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, can help regulate blood sugar and blood pressure, acts as a preventative measure for diseases (such as cancer), improves the immune system, and so on.

It’s so powerful, that research has proven it to be “31 times more potent than blueberries, 60 times more potent than spinach, and 700 times more potent than apples”. [Source: Nutrition News Vol XXXII, No. 8]. If that’s not compelling enough, it’s also known to satiate your appetite since it provides essential nutrients, which is great news for people who want to watch their weight.

The next time you swing by a health food store or market, consider adding this superfood to your daily diet.
