Valentine’s Day Beauty Tips
To put you in the mood for romance, the first step is to make getting ready an enjoyable experience. Light a scented candle, turn on some music and take a bubble bath. This will make you feel refreshed and pampered.
When you’re ready to do your makeup, start by moisturizing your face. Then apply a primer, to help your makeup stay in place all night long. In my opinion, Valentine’s Day makeup should enhance your natural beauty rather than hide it under a lot of makeup. That’s why a lightweight BB Cream and a radiance-boosting blush are two great options since they make your skin look dewy and lit-from-within.
Since a bold red lip might be a bit over-the-top, the next best option is a sultry berry or wine hue. Start by exfoliating your lips (to slough away dry skin), then apply a hydrating lip balm. I often like to use a lipliner all over my lips, prior to applying lipstick, as it helps the lip color stay on longer without budging or feathering. When applying your lipstick, it’s wise to use long wear lipstick, as it’s designed to last for hours.
Before putting on your clothes, take the time to moisturize your skin. If you have dry skin (which happens to most of us during winter), emollient-rich body butter or essential oil are two great choices. These will make your skin have a luminous glow while keeping it hydrated.
If you plan to wear high heels (especially a pair of stilettos, like shown here), then a foot balm can be helpful. This will help to prevent chafing and blisters, plus it’ll keep your feet feeling soft and supple.
Valentine’s Day Fashion Inspiration
While most gals might think that wearing a red dress on Valentine’s Day is the way to go, I think there’s nothing sexier than a sophisticated little black dress (with stunning red stilettos) to make him fall head over heels.
Not only is an LBD an essential for any wardrobe, but it’s also one of the most versatile pieces to have in your closet. That’s why I love pulling out a black cocktail dress for most occasions, including on Valentine’s Day.
When shopping for an LBD, a tasteful option is a faux-wrap dress with a v-neckline, 3/4 sleeves, and a knee-length hemline (like this one from La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni). This is an ultra-flattering silhouette, especially for women with curves. I also find that a dress like this is especially versatile, as it can be worn to work events (when paired with a blazer), or dressed up for special occasions (by pairing with glamorous jewelry and gorgeous pumps). What makes this particular little black dress different and unique is the playful ruffled detail on the side.
For Valentine’s Day, a sensational pair of pumps (like these red and hot pink stilettos from Aquazzurra) will steal the show. What sets these pumps apart is the festive bow detail on the ankle, in addition to the mix of satin and suede materials that add an ultra-glam effect. A pair of statement shoes like this not only elevates your outfit, it also puts you in the mood to kick up your heels on this romantic night.
For jewelry, understated modern hoop earrings and coordinating bangle bracelets (like this gorgeous jewelry from Armenta) are beautiful options. Plus, they finish the outfit in a tasteful and elegant way.
As you can see, a sophisticated LBD and sexy red pumps make for a stunning look for Valentine’s Day or any hot date night. For more style tips, check out the Fashion section on Inspirations & Celebrations.
