Valentine’s Day is a holiday that people either love or loathe. While it’s become a Hallmark-driven holiday, it’s always held a special place in my heart. I guess it’s that sentimental soft side of me that makes me love celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Places to Celebrate Valentine’s Day
To inspire you to get in the mood for amour this month, here are 5 romantic places in California to celebrate Valentine’s Day. From adventurous drives along the Northern California coastline to horsedrawn carriage rides through Southern California’s wine country, here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day.
No matter how you plan to celebrate, always remember what a wise man once said, “love is the answer”.
Carmel-by-the-Sea
Carmel-by-the-Sea is simply made for romance. During the daytime, you can enjoy wine tasting at a variety of tasting rooms. Plus, you can leisurely stroll throughout the European-inspired village, bopping into unique boutiques and dreamy art galleries.
If you’re a dog lover, then bring your furry friend with you to Cypress Inn (pictured below). This renowned historic hotel is an ideal place to dine al fresco as it has a gorgeous courtyard with twinkling lights and a love-themed wall motif done by the famed artist, Mr. Brainwash.
Whether you just started dating your sweetheart or you’ve been married for years, this little city-by-the-sea is truly one of the most enchanting places to spend Valentine’s Day.
Santa Barbara
Another romantic place in California to celebrate Valentine’s Day is at the Four Seasons Resort Biltmore Hotel in Santa Barbara. This majestic, Mediterranean style hotel and spa is located adjacent to the picturesque beach and is just minutes away from downtown. Not only is it a luxurious retreat for visitors both near and far, but it also has one of the most beautiful restaurants to dine in. Whether you come for a meal or stay the night, this is definitely a romantic spot to toast to love in.
While in Santa Barbara, if you’re looking for something fun to do with your loved one during the day, a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo is always a good time. From watching lovebirds canoodling in the trees to feeding the giraffes, spending time amongst the animals makes for a truly enjoyable experience together.
San Simeon
Since love is one of the greatest and grandest experiences of our lives, a visit to the legendary Hearst Castle in San Simeon is a magnificent way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. From inspiring sculptures and artwork to lavish architecture, interiors, and landscaped gardens, this is one of the most romantic places to spend the day with the one you love.
Mendocino
If you’re up for outdoor adventures and enjoy spending time in nature, then a drive up the scenic Northern California coastline to Mendocino is in order. Whether you go for the day or the weekend, a trek up to this charming coastal town is always a fun time. Plus, you can explore nearby redwood groves and rocky beaches. Bundle up, pack a picnic, and go exploring with your favorite person.
Solvang
If you’re seeking a little sunshine, head to wine country in the Santa Ynez Valley. Here you’ll find a captivating Danish town called Solvang. From charming eateries to Insta-worthy architecture, this is one of the most romantic places in California to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
During the daytime, a fun way to explore the town is by a horse-drawn carriage. There are so many things to check out – from the Danish museum to decadent bakeries. After the sun sets, an elegant and cozy place to spend the night with your beau is at the Mirabelle Inn. Not only do they have a gourmet restaurant, but the posh interior also makes you feel like you’ve been given the royal treatment.
