Inspired by the famous Dr. Seuss’ children’s book Oh, The Places You’ll Go, renowned adventure-enthusiast and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley captured the whimsy and wonder of the book in her youthful Spring 2020 collection.
NYFW Style Series: Cynthia Rowley Spring 2020 Collection
From sustainably-produced wetsuits and swimwear to enchanting dresses, separates, and even a sequined suit (that was produced out of recycled plastic water bottles), her playful new collection is a mix of vibrant colors, statement prints, and intricate embroidery that exude an artistic touch.
Heralded for her “surf-leisure” signature style, New York-based Rowley often designs pieces that are suitable for coastal destinations, such as Carmel, California (where we’re based). Which, to no surprise, is the location of one of her newest retail boutiques (at Carmel Plaza in Carmel-by-the-Sea).
During New York Fashion Week recently, Cynthia Rowley took to the streets to stage an exuberant runway show for her Spring 2020 collection.
Located in a roped-off alley at the corner of Hudson and Bleeker Street in the heart of Tribeca, Rowley’s team greeted guests and guided them to their seats (or standing positions). Decorated with colorful jumbo helium balloons and a custom-made 200-foot rug featuring the printed artwork from Dr. Seuss’ book, the festive outdoor atmosphere set the stage for what was going to be an upbeat and lighthearted show.
From fashion bloggers and social influencers (like musician and influencer Tezza, author Caroline Vazzana of Making It In Manhattan, and personal style blogger Jordan Landes-Brenman of Haute House Flower) to notable industry insiders (such as J.Crew’s former chief designer Jenna Lyons), we caught up with several of the colorfully-dressed VIP guests anxiously awaiting the debut of the highly-anticipated collection.
Once the dance-worthy music started playing, models dressed in head-turning ensembles (accompanied by suitcases and surfboards) started strutting down the runway.
From groovy, flower power-inspired printed dresses (that gave off a retro vibe) to shimmering sequined outfits (that were reminiscent of the glamorous Studio 54 era), each of the stand-out pieces from Cynthia Rowley’s Spring 2020 collection made a powerful statement. Other notable accents in the collection included raffia hats, billowy silhouettes, fun-loving graphic prints, and bohemian-inspired embroidered details.
Whether you’re drawn to the whimsy and wonder of her line or simply love the joyful, carefree energy that her label personifies, one thing is for sure – Cynthia Rowley has a way of inspiring us to go places, even if it’s just to the outer limits of our imagination.
