The old saying goes, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” If that’s the case, then I say – dress like a #GirlBoss! Whether you’re a creative freelancer, a corporate 9-to-5 gal, or a self-made entrepreneur, looking great (and feeling confident) is half the battle.
To inspire you to dress for success, today’s style guide shares tips on how to wear smart and stylish work outfits.
The #GirlBoss Guide To Smart & Stylish Work Outfits
Inspired by Power Players
When I was planning this style guide, I knew I wanted to share modern ways to dress for work. After reading a recent issue of InStyle (in which they showed strong suiting looks referred to as “Power Players”), it inspired me to feature a smart and stylish work outfit that exhibits strength and femininity.
With the rise of women in the workplace and the growing female empowerment movement, it’s given us a whole new identity in business. From successful CEOs and Founders to pioneering women who are making names for themselves in different fields, women everywhere are taking the bulls by the horns to pursue their dream jobs.
It’s such an amazing time to be a woman, as there are more opportunities than ever before to make incredible things happen. That’s why I hope that today’s style guide inspires you to become your own version of a “Power Player”.
Choose a Feminine Blouse
The beauty of women often lies in the power of their femininity.
Soft, sentimental, and soulful – a whimsical blouse (like this abstract print blouse by Adam Lippes) exudes a romantic and creative vibe. The mock neck silhouette adds a conservative touch to an otherwise sensual look (since the material is sheer). The striking black-and-white print brings an electric energy to the look, which makes you stand out from the crowd.
Style Tip: Since some workplaces have guidelines regarding appropriate work outfits, to make this particular work outfit suitable for all environments, you can easily change the blouse (by opting for an opaque fabric instead).
Dress to Impress in a Modern Suit
A masculine suit has always been a way for women to come across as strong, capable, and powerful in the workplace. But, that doesn’t mean the design of your suit has to be borrowed from the boys. A modern take on suiting is to incorporate feminine accents like a peplum waistline or fit-and-flare silhouette.
As an example, this flattering blazer (by La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni) highlights a woman’s curves, while giving off a confident, powerful vibe. Plus, the tuxedo pants (by Chiara Boni) add an elegant and chic look.
Step into The Spotlight in Pumps
Pumps have always been a smart and stylish shoe choice for the workplace. Both practical (as they’re close-toed) and elegant, a pump visually elongates your legs while adding height. Whether you prefer a kitten heel (which is advisable if you’re on your feet all day) or you love sky-high stilettos, pumps are chic shoe option for work.
Make a Style Statement with Jewelry
To finish your look, an eye-catching statement ring and glam hoop earrings add a stylish touch to your work outfits. As a gal who loves a little sparkle, the jewelry pictured here is a perfect example of how a dose of bling turns mundane tasks into special moments. Plus, a cocktail ring like this makes typing business reports even more fun!
Wearing smart and stylish work outfits makes following your dreams even more enjoyable. That’s why putting together work outfits that empower you is the first step toward becoming self-confident and successful.
