Feeling a sense of pride in your work (which challenges you to do your best), being motivated to learn more and get better at what you do (which keeps you mentally stimulated), and being emotionally fulfilled in your job (which helps you feel satiated and content) are a few of the keys to becoming a successful person.

Tip # 1: Figure out what you love to do

When we were kids, we could spend hours immersed in all types of activities. From DIY creative projects to sports and outdoor activities, children can entertain themselves all day by doing the things they love. When we became adults, responsibilities and to-do lists seemed to take over our lives. But that doesn’t have to be the case.

To help us discover the best jobs for us, we have to get back to the basics. This starts with writing a list of all the things we love to do. Whether that’s writing, photography, public speaking, meeting new people or even traveling – figuring out what you love to do is the first step toward finding your dream job. You were born to do something great, you just have to go within to discover what that “something” is.

As an example, in 2011 when I launched Inspirations & Celebrations, I started thinking about all the things I was passionate about. From testing new beauty products to entertaining at home, I knew I wanted to share my passions with the world. So I decided it was time to bring all my interests together in one place – that’s what led me to create this website – which has evolved into an inspiring digital lifestyle guide for women. When I took the time to think about my “dream job”, I knew that I wanted to create a business that would enable me to do all the things I love while empowering and educating other people through helpful tutorials and digital guides.

Tip # 2: Assess your personality and work style

During a board retreat for an organization that I was President of years ago, our team decided to collectively take the Myers-Briggs personality test. Not only was it a fun way to get to know our new team members, it was also very informative for each of us to discover more about our personalities and work styles.

This type of test helps you determine if you are an extrovert or introvert (which will affect your communication style and how you work with others), as well as how you handle making decisions and getting things done. It also gives you an indication as to how you would innately handle leadership roles, crisis-management situations, and even day-to-day work responsibilities.

When you understand your personality and work style, you are that much closer to discovering the best jobs for you. As an example – If you love meeting new people, feel comfortable at networking and social events, and gain energy through interpersonal communication, then you might be best suited for a career in sales or public relations.

Tip # 3: Learn new skills

When we educate ourselves and expand our skill base, we feel empowered and motivated to do more and grow. By continually committing to learning new skills (whether it’s through watching YouTube videos, taking a class at your local college, or doing a weekend training seminar), we not only add to our resume, we also feel mentally stimulated and engaged.

As you learn new skills, you also become more capable of taking on new responsibilities and projects at work, which naturally leads to more personal fulfillment and rewards (such as a boost in income). That’s why you should never stop learning or being curious.

When you discover your passions, feel motivated to do the things you love, and focus on bringing out your innate talents, you’ll find the best jobs that you’re suited for.
