Every individual comes equipped with a unique face shape and a distinctive set of facial features. This diverse array of characteristics can make it challenging to find the perfect pair of eyeglasses to complement each face. Not only should the frames accentuate the best facial feature, but they should match the wearers’ sense of style and personality as well. Stylish glasses for women have changed throughout the years. However, the same standard principles can be used to help eyeglass wearers choose the best pair for their individual look.
How To Choose The Right Pair of Frames
Evaluate Your Face Shape
While there are many different face shapes, most can be placed into five general categories. These include the following:
- Round: Faces that are rounded in shape have a wider forehead, full cheeks, and a rounded chin. Round faces benefit from square frames or angled frames, which help to elongate the face and soften the round appearance. Avoid wearing round frames or frames that are too small.
- Square: Square faces are equally proportioned in both length and width. With a broad chin and cheekbones, these faces look best with frames that soften the angular look. These include round or oval styles. Square-shaped faces should avoid wearing square-shaped or light colored frames.
- Heart-Shaped: Faces that have a wider forehead, broad cheek bones and a narrow chin are heart-shaped. These faces look best with frames that are wider at the bottom, including rectangle, aviator, and wayfarer styles. Heart-shaped faces should avoid wearing dark frames or styles that involve top-heavy decorations.
- Oval: People who have balanced proportions are said to have oval-shaped faces, which are thought to be the ideal shape. These lucky individuals look good in nearly any shape and style of frames, including rectangle, round, aviator, wayfarer, cat-eye, and rimless glasses. They should, however, avoid wearing frames that are either too small or too large for their face.
- Diamond: The widest part of a diamond-shaped face is at the cheekbones, with a narrower forehead and an angular jaw line. Although this face shaped is not as common as the others, diamond-shaped faces should stick to rimless frames or frames with wide brow lines. This includes cat-eye styles. Thin frames should be avoided at all costs.
Choosing frames for your face shape is vital, though there are several other details to look at when finding the ideal pair of eyeglasses.
Selecting a Complementary Color
Eyeglass wearers should choose a color of frame that accents their underlying skin tone. Consider the following:
- Warm Undertones: Those with warm undertones will notice a hint of yellow or green radiating through their peach or pink skin. These skin shades look best wearing neutral colors, as well as mahoganies and bright orange colors.
- Cool Undertones: Cool undertones usually involve a bluish or pinkish underlying color to the skin. People with cool undertones look best wearing navy, forest green, and rosy pink colored frames.
Be sure to match the shade or intensity of the color with the hair and eye color of the individual wearing the eyeglasses.
Although wearing prescription eyeglasses is a necessity for some, it doesn’t have to be a fashion faux pas. Eyeglasses can actually enhance facial features and make the wearer look even more beautiful than they already are.
