Starting with Relais & Châteaux GourmetFest in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California this week and then moving on to Pebble Beach Food & Wine next month, you could say that food and wine festival season has officially started on the Monterey Peninsula.

To celebrate, today’s style guide shares tips and inspiring ideas on what to wear to a food and wine festival.

Style Guide: What To Wear To A Food & Wine Festival

Whether you’re attending an Opening Night Reception or a Grand Tasting, here are style tips on how to dress for a food and wine festival. From comfortable, yet chic shoes that elevate your outfit to glamorous accents that add a dash of pizazz to your ensemble, here’s one of my favorite looks for any food and wine festival.

Elevate Your Look in Lamé

Since food and wine festivals are often an opportunity to dress up, why not have a little fun by making a grand entrance in something eye-catching and beautiful?! As sumptuous and elegant as a bottle of Dom Perignon, a festive way to make a statement is with a shimmering metallic pleated lamé skirt. Plus, the fit-and-flare silhouette and knee-length are also flattering and perfectly appropriate for food and wine festivals.

Style Tip: When dressing for a food and wine festival – I recommend opting for elegant, understated silhouettes, rather than overly racy looks (like super short skirts or tight bodycon dresses). If you want to show off your shape, a well-fitting tank top (with a built-in bra) paired with a feminine skirt makes a great combination.

I recently discovered this gorgeous skirt by trying the Amazon Prime Wardrobe program – which enables Prime members to try on outfits at home for 7-days, prior to purchasing. If an item doesn’t fit or isn’t as expected, you can easily return it. It’s as simple as that!

Opt for Chic & Comfortable Shoes

As you’ll most likely be tasting a variety of wines (which could lead to being a bit tipsy), to help you maintain your balance and composure, a pair of chic and comfortable shoes is a wise choice. As examples, wedges or espadrilles are both great options. Not only are they easy to walk in, but they also give your height a boost without making you feel wobbly on your feet. Plus, they’re always in style during Spring and Summer.

Dazzle Them With Your Accessories

For a dramatic touch, a few dazzling accessories (like a beaded clutch and shimmering jewelry) elevate your outfit. Leave the heavy tote bag at home, and opt for a sleek and sophisticated purse to carry your must-have essentials. For jewelry, a glamorous cocktail ring, and gleaming jewel-encrusted earrings add the finishing touch to your look.

Choose Long-Wearing Makeup

Since food and wine festival events often last for hours, it’s smart to choose long-wearing makeup.

Start by applying your favorite primer (for a flawless canvas and to boost your foundation’s staying-power). Plus, a skin perfecting powder (like my favorite powder by Charlotte Tilbury) will help ensure you look gorgeous throughout the event, and especially in photos.

When choosing a lip color, opting for a long-wearing lipstick is a wise choice. The key is to choose a lipstick that doesn’t smudge or budge when drinking or eating since you’ll be tasting a variety of foods and beverages.

To set your makeup, a setting spray (like this one by Urban Decay) helps makeup look picture-perfect for hours.
