Whether you’ve been facing blizzards or torrential rainstorms this winter, one thing’s for sure – you’re probably dreaming about a Spring getaway right about now. Lately, all I’ve been doing (while it’s been pouring outside) is perusing Travel + Leisure, getting excited about planning a Spring vacation to a gorgeous destination spot.

From road tripping along rugged Northern California coastline to leisurely strolling through vineyards in Napa Valley, here are some of my favorite places to vacation in California.
Destination: Carmel, California
From unsurpassed ocean views and white sandy beaches to a picturesque European-inspired village with wine tasting rooms, gourmet restaurants, and charming boutiques, one of the best places in California to visit during Spring is Carmel, California. Naturally, we’re a little biased (as we’re based here), but truth be told – it’s one of the most spectacular, world-renowned travel destinations on the globe.
When booking a vacation in Carmel, a few of the hotels we recommend are La Playa, Cypress Inn (which is also dog-friendly), Hotel Carmel, and Pine Inn. Be sure to check out acclaimed local restaurants like Forge in the Forest, Il Tegamino, and La Bicyclette, just to name a few.
Destination: Lake Tahoe, California
Whether you prefer the excitement of gambling in South Shore or enjoy the relaxed, leisurely lifestyle that North Shore offers, a vacation in Lake Tahoe is always a great idea, especially during Spring. The snow-capped mountains will just be starting to melt, and the weather will still be a bit crisp, but delightfully refreshing.
When in Tahoe, an outing on the lake is always a fun way to spend the day. Go full throttle in a speedy powerboat or slow things down with a relaxing kayak ride. If you prefer to take in the scenery while noshing on some great food, head to popular lakefront eateries like Jake’s On The Lake or the Lone Eagle Grille at The Hyatt.
Destination: Mendocino, California
Located north of Santa Rose, along the Pacific Coast Highway in Northern California, the charming town of Mendocino is a beautiful place to vacation in Spring. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars, as there will be plenty of breathtaking sights to behold. Not to mention – you might even see a pod of whales swim by as your peering out toward the magnificent Pacific Ocean.
When visiting Mendocino, one of our favorite places to eat is the Mendocino Cafe. This casual, unassuming eatery is a local’s hangout and is known for exceptional food at budget-friendly prices. After dining, take a stroll around the town, checking out unique boutiques and chachka shops. While you’re there, we also recommend taking a hike along one of the stunning cliffside trails or heading down to the beach for some R&R.
Destination: Napa Valley, California
Famous for being the ultimate wine country in California, there’s no shortage of incredible wineries and tasting rooms to visit in Napa Valley. But this premiere destination spot offers more than just great wine.
From horseback rides through vineyards and hot air balloon rides over the valley to popular music festivals (like Bottlerock) and even African safari adventures (at Safari West in Santa Rosa), there are so many fun things to do in Napa Valley. Plus, if you decide to plan a trip to Napa Valley during April, be sure to check out the Hall Wines Cabernet Cookoff – a fun-filled food & wine fundraiser at the gorgeous Hall Winery.
A few of our places in Napa Valley include visiting Meadowood Resort (to lounge by the pool, of course), dining at Boon Fly Cafe (they’re great for brunch) and Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch (an awesome dinner spot), and shopping along the main street of St. Helena.
Destination: Santa Barbara, California
Last, but certainly not least, is a trip to Santa Barbara, California. This picturesque play place in Southern California is one of our favorite travel spots, especially during Spring. The sunny weather beckons you to put on a swimsuit and head to the beach (or to the ultra-exclusive Coral Casino Beach and Cabana Club, as pictured above).
From the fun-filled Santa Barbara Zoo to chic celeb-studded hangouts like The Lark Santa Barbara and Ty Lounge at the Four Seasons, there are so many great places to check out down here. Plus, if you’re a foodie, then you should definitely do the Eat This, Shoot That walking food tour. It’s a great way to check out the area while noshing away on delicious bites at various eateries.
