To help you elevate your look this season, Inspirations & Celebrations recently launched a new 4-part hairstyle tutorial series in collaboration with hairstylist Lili Cabrera (from the award-winning Oya Salon in Monterey, California).
Featuring gorgeous runway-inspired hairstyles, these tutorials will teach you how to easily create salon-worthy looks at home. In Part 1, Lili taught us how to create romantic loose curls. In today’s hairstyle tutorial, Lili shows how to do a glamorous ponytail that is anything but basic.
Hairstyle Tutorial: The Glamorous Ponytail
Step 1: Since this look works best when hair has some texture to it, it’s especially great for next day hair! Start by brushing the hair to remove any tangles.
Step 2: To determine the best position for a ponytail, angle a comb along your cheekbone to figure out the perfect position for your high ponytail.
For a perfect low ponytail, line up the comb along the base of your jawline. By doing this technique first, you will prevent the look of an awkward ponytail. Plus it’s more flattering for your face when you position it properly first.
Step 3: Section hair from the front of the ear to the hairline. These sections will be added later into the ponytail.
Step 4: Tease the top of the crown, this will give more body to the ponytail and keep it from looking too flat. Plus, by adding height to the crown of your head, it can also make your forehead look smaller too.
Step 5: Lightly brush hair back into a ponytail, this will keep from brushing out tease. Secure with a hair tie. To give ponytail more texture, hold the base of the ponytail with the other hand and pull lightly at the base.
Step 6: Brushback hairline, wrap a section of hair around the base of the ponytail to cover hair tie and secure with a hairpin. This will give a more polished look (instead of an elastic band being visible).
Step 7: Finish the look by spraying with hairspray. Use a pomade to smooth out the hairline (and minimize any flyaways or baby hairs from popping up).
