A spa day is more than a luxury in life – it’s pretty essential to one’s health and well-being (if you ask me).
Even if you just book a single 50-minute treatment (like a relaxing facial or massage), I can promise that will probably be the best hour you’ve spent taking care of yourself in the last few weeks (or months perhaps!). To prove this point, today’s health & beauty guide shares 5 compelling reasons why a spa day enhances your wellness, beauty, and creativity.
In celebration of my birthday, I recently took a few days off to have a staycation at home (I live on the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California). When my family asked how I wanted to spend my birthday (which happens to be July 4th), instead of having a party or traveling somewhere, I surprised them by saying “let’s do a spa day locally!”.
Well, one of my favorite spas in the world just happens to be The Spa at Pebble Beach. This “home away from home” for me is my ultimate indulgence when I need self-care. From the soothing inhalation room (complete with a healing rock salt wall) to the relaxing deep tissue massage treatments, this place is like a wonderland of wellness.
So, we booked 50-minute massage treatments and then spent the next few hours just immersing ourselves in the tranquil atmosphere of the spa.
Whether you visit a world-renowned spa (like this one), or just head to a nearby boutique spa, spending a few hours in a spa atmosphere can be as relaxing and healing as going on a weekend vacation. To illustrate this point, here are 5 compelling reasons why a spa day is essential.
1. A Spa Day Promotes Physical Healing
To relieve muscle tension (from exercise or computer work), boost circulation in the body, and relax the nerves, a spa day promotes physical healing and well-being. From detoxifying body treatments (such as revitalizing seaweed wraps and exfoliating body scrubs) to soothing massage treatments, booking a spa treatment can help heal your body.
2. A Spa Day Revitalizes Your Beauty
Whether you book a facial (which cleanses and rejuvenates your skin) or get another type of skin or hair treatment, a spa day can help revitalize your beauty. As we age, our skin and body require more maintenance to look and feel its best. That’s why a spa day can help turn back the hands of time by promoting healthy, youthful skin and hair.
3. A Spa Day Can Boost Mental Clarity
Whenever our minds get stressed (by thinking of to-do lists, projects, etc.), we often forget to breathe. However, deep breathing is one of the best ways to boost mental clarity and calm the mind. Doing mindful deep breathing exercises can help relieve mental anxiety and stress, clear your head, and help you focus better.
4. A Spa Day Can Inspire Creativity
Sometimes just being in a peaceful, beautiful atmosphere is enough to inspire creativity. Other times, it’s through mindful awareness (focusing on the sights and sounds of your surroundings, like watching a bubbling fountain or listening to chirping birds) that we’ll find inspiration. Being “in the now” and letting go of thoughts (as challenging as it can be to do at times) is exactly what we need to find our creativity. When we are present, new ideas and inspiration can come to us. That’s why a spa day can inspire creativity.
5. A Spa Day is Detoxifying
One of the benefits of visiting is a spa is to indulge in the detoxifying foods and beverages they offer. From herbal teas to fresh fruit and superfood salads, when visiting a spa, take advantage of the wellness-boosting foods they offer. This is a great way to kick-start your detox from unhealthy foods, alcohol, and sugars. A detox can help eliminate impurities and toxins from your system, helping to rev the metabolism, balance pH levels, and boost immunity.
Whether you visit a spa for healing body treatments or to get glowing skin from a beautifying facial, as outlined above, a spa day is always a good way to boost your wellness, beauty, and creativity.
