When it comes to beauty gatherings, one of the biggest events around is the ipsy Gen Beauty conference. Over the weekend of July 21-22, the San Francisco-based event brought together 18 celebrity YouTube and internet beauty stars, over 30 major beauty brands (including Benefit Cosmetics, Pixi Beauty, MAC Cosmetics, and many others), and thousands of beauty lovers, makeup and skincare addicts, hairstylists.
As the winner of the Pixi Beauty #PixiPrettiesContest, I was given the opportunity to catch up with famed beauty YouTuber and internet sensation, Chloe Morello. Having recently launched her exclusive Pixi Palette & Lipgloss in collaboration with Pixi Beauty, Chloe was attending the ipsy Gen Beauty conference to meet fans and connect with the beauty lovers who adore her gorgeous makeup palette and lipgloss.
Beauty Q&A with Chloe Morello
During our girl-talk, we discussed everything you could imagine – from skincare regimens to the funny story behind how one of her YouTube videos went viral (turning her into an overnight celeb). Here’s what she had to say…
CLP: How did you grow your following to over 2 million subscribers on YouTube?
CM: I launched my channel when I was 18 and began by uploading dance videos (as I was a dancer), but then decided to launch my beauty channel. I posted an eyeliner video (that happened to go viral), as someone must have shared it (probably because you could see down my blouse in the video! LOL).
CLP: What are some of your best beauty tips?
CM: I like to use my fingers or a BeautyBlender to press in my makeup. Also, I’m careful about applying highlighter, so that it looks more natural. I make sure to check my face in natural lighting before finishing my makeup.
CLP: What is your current skincare regimen?
CM: I use Retinol every day. At one point I was doing both AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid) and Retinol, but then I learned that these ingredients don’t work together, and can be aggravating to the skin. Now I make sure to look at ingredients first to ensure they don’t conflict with each other.

In addition to meeting Chloe Morello at the Pixi Beauty booth, one of their other #PixiPretties collaborators, YouTube and internet star Weylie Hoang (pictured below on left) was also at ipsy Gen Beauty greeting guests and meeting beauty fans. The two Pixi Beauty stars also spoke on a panel about “Pixi Beauty: More Than Makeup”, sharing their behind-the-screen careers with a live demo of their Pixi Pretties product collabs.
Beauty YouTube Stars at ipsy Gen Beauty
Throughout the 2-day event, other notable YouTube beauty stars and digital influencers (such as Kandee Johnson, Christen Dominique, Jessica Vu, Jackie Aina, Jaleesa Moses, Jenn Im, Nikita Dragun and more) spoke on panels about everything from creating your best selfie to sharing their stories of inner triumph, inspiration, and some seriously glam makeup looks.
Makeup artist and YouTuber Gabriel Zamora (pictured above) says “I express my unique beauty by fully embracing everything that I am.” During the conference, Gabriel spoke on a panel called “ipsy Creators: Behind The screen” in which the audience got to know the ipsy Creators and learn about their path to success as well as their lives as beauty influencers.
Another empowering and inspiration one of the ipsy Talks at the ipsy Gen Beauty conference was presented by MAC Cosmetics and titled “All Ages, All Races, All Genders”. During this panel, the audience heard how makeup trailblazers at MAC Cosmetics helped forge a path for everyone in the industry with a positive message of inclusivity that continues today.
Throughout the event, attendees were able to get mini makeovers, chat with their favorite beauty influencers and content creators, learn expert tips on makeup, skincare and haircare, and even win beauty prizes by participating in the fun scavenger hunt.
From playful interactive stations to selfie-cams, there was no shortage of fun things to do at the ipsy Gen Beauty conference. Whether you are a makeup addict, a skincare devotee, or have a love of all things hair-related, this glamorous 2-day event was the ultimate play-place for beauty lovers.
Beauty Brands at ipsy Gen Beauty Conference
Throughout the conference, guests bopped from one booth to the next, learning beauty tips and picking up swag. At the Benefit Cosmetics booth, guests were able to enter a giveaway and get a chance to explore their amazing products. At the Buxom Cosmetics booth (who believe that “bold lips lead to a big, bold, sexy life”, attendees were treated to a lip transformation courtesy of professional makeup artists. At the MAC Cosmetics station, guests received complimentary demonstrations by MAC Artists, enjoyed epic interactive photo ops and walked away with MAC products. Other notable brands on-site included Derma E, Physicians Formula, Purlisse Beauty, Too Faced Cosmetics, IBY Beauty, Luxie, Cotz Skincare, Glamcor, Jouer, and more.
Another one of the beauty influencers we met at ipsy Gen Beauty was makeup artist Roxette Arisa (pictured above). She taught her fans how to take gorgeous selfies during the “Glamcor: Your Best Selfie” session alongside Wanchen Kaiser. In addition, guests had the chance to put their skills to the test and win Glamcor swag.
Roxette says, “I love using the transformative powers of makeup to make me feel most like “me”. Whether it’s a bold red lip, a fierce cat eye or an all-over bronze, I love that makeup can make me who I want to be… for the day and most importantly that it can make me feel confident and comfortable in my own skin.”
To sum up the event – the inspiring messages we saw there were “Be as bold as your lipstick” and “Express Your Unique Beauty”. Those are the positive beliefs that the empowering ipsy Gen Beauty event shares with the world, which is exactly what we all need to remind ourselves each and every day.
