From Christmas gatherings to New Year’s Eve parties, entertaining at-home during the holidays is always a fun affair. But, more often than not, these holiday parties seem to be filled with unhealthy snacks and sugar-laden treats.
Tasty Vegetarian Appetizers
To help you and guests stay healthy, yet still enjoy the holiday season, in collaboration with GOODFOODS, today’s healthy holiday entertaining guide shares recipes for two tasty vegetarian appetizers that are both festive and flavorful.
Not only are these vegetarian appetizers filled with flavor, they’re also healthier options to serve, as they are high in vitamins, nutrients, and fiber. Plus, they require minimal prep-time and are easy to make, which simplifies your life and makes hostessing that much more enjoyable.
Appetizer Recipe: Christmas Tree Chips
The first recipe features GOODFOODS Tableside Chunky Guacamole as the featured ingredient, smeared on top of baked Lavash bread, and topped with vitamin-rich red bell peppers, alongside crispy bread sticks. To make a festive holiday-inspired display, these guacamole-topped chips are presented in the shape of a Christmas Tree.
Your guests will be happy to know that this good-tasting guacamole contains only natural ingredients, like hand-scooped Haas avocados, tomatoes, onion, garlic, and fresh lime juice. Lavash Bread is a heart-healthy Armenian flatbread that’s not only good for you, but very versatile, making it a healthier option. Bell peppers are not only rich in Vitamin C, they also contain phytochemicals and carotenoids, which have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Ingredients:
GOODFOODS Tableside Chunky Guacamole
Red Bell Pepper
Lavash Bread
Breadsticks
Step 1: Set the over to 375 degrees. On a cutting board, lay a piece of Lavash Bread horizontally and cut into 3 strips of equal size. Then cut diagonally through each strip, making a criss-cross shape (which creates triangular-shaped pieces). Discard of the remaining bread scraps, and lay the triangular pieces on an un-coated baking pan.
Step 2: To help the pieces of bread brown-up in the oven, lightly spread a little butter on the top of each piece. Then pop the pan in the oven for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Break the bread-sticks into small 1-2″ pieces. These will be used as the tree stumps (for display purposes).
Step 4: Dice the bell pepper into small pieces and set out your remaining ingredients, including the guacamole.
Step 5: When the baked bread turns into crispy chips (after 10-minutes in the oven), take the pan out and allow the chips to cool (for about 5-10 minutes. They should have a golden brown color when done.
Step 6: Spread guacamole on top of each chip, and sprinkle a few pieces of diced bell pepper on top. Lay the finished Christmas Tree Chips on a serving platter, adding a breadstick underneath the bottom of each chip, to give it a real Christmas Tree look. These are ready to serve.
Appetizer Recipe: Christmas Crescent Rolls
