As a native of Pebble Beach, California, you could say that luxury travel and resort lifestyle is a part of my upbringing. Whether you’re a golf fan or not, discover why Pebble Beach is a dream destination for all travelers – from spa lovers and gourmet food aficionados to recreational enthusiasts who enjoy beautiful settings.
In today’s luxury travel guide, we’ll delve into the captivating allure of Pebble Beach, exploring everything from its luxurious hotels to its renowned restaurants and memorable activities. Plus, you’ll learn about my favorite places to go and things to do in this incredible part of California.
Nestled along the iconic 17 Mile Drive on the beautiful Central Coast of Northern California and home to the famed Lone Cypress tree (pictured below), this picturesque destination has captured the hearts of both locals and travelers alike.
From its breathtaking natural beauty to its world-class amenities, Pebble Beach offers an unforgettable experience for everyone who visits it. Pebble Beach Resorts has earned prestigious awards and recognition internationally as a top travel spot for discerning travelers.
From being ranked in Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses to garnering a Five-Star Award from Forbes Travel Guide, the collection of hotels and golf courses (run by the company), is renowned as a beloved vacation haven.
Not to mention – celebrities, athletes, and notable leaders often flock here. Just tonight while relaxing at The Beach & Tennis Club, I saw Golden State Warriors basketball player Stephen Curry walking into the club for a special event. In addition to visiting here, all types of influential leaders, A-list actors, political figures, and top executives have homes in Pebble Beach as well.
How To Get To Pebble Beach, California:
Pebble Beach is conveniently located on the Monterey Peninsula, just a scenic two-hour drive south of San Francisco or a quick flight to Monterey Regional Airport. If you fly into Monterey Airport (from a larger connecting airport), it’s the easiest option, as it’s a relatively small, uncrowded airport. Once you get here, renting a car is recommended for exploring the area at your own pace. Or, if you decide to just stay within Pebble Beach for the duration of your vacation, you can hop on the complimentary Lexus shuttles that will take you from hotel to hotel (within Pebble Beach).
Why is Pebble Beach a Dream Destination?
Pebble Beach, California is renowned for its mesmerizing coastline, pristine beaches, and world-class golf courses (at which the US Open and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournaments are hosted regularly). The city is dotted with exclusive luxury hotels and resorts, multi-million dollar estates and one-of-a-kind mansions, and all types of activities and unique experiences to enjoy.
Where to Stay in Pebble Beach:
Pebble Beach Resorts owns and operates four uniquely different (yet equally upscale) hotels and resorts within the gated community. Whether you’re looking for a hotel that boasts epic coastal and golf course views, or you’d prefer to retreat to a private Mediterranean-style mansion-turned-boutique hotel, there’s something for everyone here.
The Lodge at Pebble Beach: Immerse yourself in elegance at this iconic hotel, overlooking the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links. With luxurious accommodations, exquisite dining options, and stunning ocean views, The Lodge guarantees an unforgettable stay. When staying at The Lodge, you’ll also get exclusive access to the best private country club in the area – The Beach & Tennis Club. With its recent renovation and expanded hot tub (with unsurpassed ocean views), you’ll enjoy lounging by the coast, swimming in the lap pool, and tanning on the sundeck at this upscale club.
The Inn at Spanish Bay: Experience coastal serenity at The Inn, located between pristine beaches and the enchanting Del Monte Forest. This modern Mediterranean-inspired retreat offers luxurious rooms, exceptional dining, and proximity to the renowned Links at the Spanish Bay golf course. Not to mention – it boasts bustling firepit lounges with scenic golf and ocean views, which are a great place to socialize with friends while listening to the Scottish bagpiper play at sunset.
Casa Palmero: Step into a world of indulgence at this intimate Mediterranean-style estate (that was once a private mansion many years ago). Casa Palmero offers luxurious guestrooms, a private spa, and access to the renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links. Prepare to be pampered and rejuvenated in this tranquil haven.
Fairway One: Experience unparalleled luxury in these exclusive guest rooms and cottages situated along the first fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Offering breathtaking views, stylish accommodations, and personalized service, Fairway One is a haven for discerning travelers. This hotel is especially ideal for groups who want to share connected suites, either for bachelor and bachelorette parties, family gatherings, or even corporate retreats.
Where to Eat in Pebble Beach:
Pebble Beach boasts a vibrant culinary scene that caters to every palate. Indulge in delectable coastal cuisine, farm-to-table delicacies, and international flavors at the following noteworthy restaurants. In addition to outstanding restaurants, Pebble Beach Resorts recently announced that in April 2024, they’re bringing back the highly-popular Pebble Beach Food & Wine festival.
Stillwater Bar & Grill: Savor exquisite seafood and steaks while enjoying panoramic ocean views at this sophisticated waterfront restaurant.
The Bench: Delight in innovative Californian cuisine, complemented by stunning views of the 18th hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links. In addition to great food (I highly recommend the roasted beets, flatbreads, and of course, the cookie skillet dessert), the restaurant also provides indoor and outdoor seating. Get there early to get a firepit table outdoors for the best view; grab a cocktail or drink at the bar while waiting for a table.
Sticks at The Inn at Spanish Bay: With both indoor dining, bar dining, and outdoor firepit seating, if you’re in the mood for a comfortable and casual eatery, then head to Sticks. This golf-themed sports bar offers an unparalleled golf course and ocean view, great-tasting fair-priced food (such as pulled pork sliders, fish tacos, salads, etc.), and a relaxed ambiance.
Hay’s Place: This new Mexican restaurant and bar is a wonderful place to lounge by the firepits after a day of golfing or outdoor activities. Enjoy drinks and appetizers (such as nachos, roasted Elote, guacamole and chips, and other south-of-the-border style cuisines), or stay for dinner, while overlooking the sunset behind The Hay golf course. From day to night, this new hotspot has become a popular destination for visitors, near and far.
Roy’s at Pebble Beach: Embark on a culinary journey with Hawaiian fusion cuisine that blends bold flavors and fresh ingredients. From delectable sushi and seafood to vegetarian delights, this contemporary restaurant is a fan favorite amongst locals and tourists. Plus, they claim to have the best key lime pie in the entire area (which I’d agree with).
Things to do in Pebble Beach:
Golf: Pebble Beach Golf Links is a highly revered destination for avid golfers seeking an unforgettable experience on its renowned fairways. The stunning Pacific Ocean and rugged coastline serve as a dramatic backdrop as you follow the paths of golfing legends. Challenge yourself on this iconic coastal gem, soaking in breathtaking views with every swing. Just bring extra golf balls, as the course is rather difficult to navigate (even for the pros).
You’ll feel like a champ as you putt where all the iconic PGA leaders (like Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson) have played. Not to mention – the golf course is hosting the Women’s US Open Golf Tournament in July 2023, which makes it an especially exciting time to visit. If you aren’t able to make it for this tournament, be sure to add the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament to your calendar, as it’s a fun social event that brings together the best PGA golfers in the world alongside celebrities (such as A-list actors, sports stars, industry leaders, and more).
Water Activities: Dive into aquatic adventures with kayaking, paddle boarding, or sailing along the stunning California coast. Embrace the exhilaration of the open water and discover the hidden gems of the Pacific Ocean. Not only is it a great way to explore the area, but it’s also a wonderful experience to see animals in their natural habitat, up-close.
Outdoor Exploration: Discover the pristine beauty of Del Monte Forest by hiking its scenic trails, horseback riding along its peaceful paths, or cycling along the renowned 17 Mile Drive. Immerse yourself in nature’s wonders and capture Instagram-worthy moments.
Beaches: Visit one of the many white sand beaches in Pebble Beach to fully experience the natural coastline. Relax on the pristine beaches, feel the warm sand on your toes, and let the calming sounds of the waves take you to a state of pure relaxation. You can also pick up freshly made gourmet sandwiches (my fave is the Greenskeeper) and snacks at The Pebble Beach Market, to make it easy and effortless to create a memorable beach picnic. I recommend heading to Seal Rock Beach, which is great for picnics and relaxation; or, to the beach at Stillwater Cove.
Spa Treatments: After a long day of doing outdoor activities, indulge in a relaxing massage or facial treatment at the world-class spa, aptly named The Spa at Pebble Beach, which is one of the most exquisite spa facilities you could ever imagine. From an inhalation room with a built-in Himalayan rock salt wall (that provides a tranquil respite from the chaos of everyday life), to an indoor jacuzzi spa, a stunning outdoor pool, and even relaxation rooms you can lounge in for hours, once you step into this spa, you’ll never want to leave. Not to mention – I highly recommend enjoying a healthy lunch or fresh fruit smoothie at the poolside snack bar, in between your treatments. Having visited many of the world’s top spas, I can promise you that this is one of the absolute best I’ve ever experienced (as evidenced below), which is why I consider it my favorite place on Earth.
As you can see, Pebble Beach is a dream destination for modern travelers seeking luxury, natural beauty, and an array of outdoor experiences set in an unparalleled atmosphere.
