If you’ve been spending more time cleaning and disinfecting your home recently, you’re not alone. To help prevent the spread of germs, many of us have upped our household cleaning routine lately. While that’s generally a good thing, the dirty truth is – most household cleaning products contain harmful chemicals. To help keep your home clean, here are some of the best natural household cleaning products that are better for your health.
The Benefits of Natural Household Cleaning Products
Over the past year, I’ve switched to using primarily natural, non-toxic household cleaning products in my home.
From dishwashing soap to laundry detergent, I mostly rely on natural household cleaning supplies to get the job done. Not only are these formulas effective at cleaning and disinfecting things, but I also feel good knowing that they’re safer and healthier for me to use.
There are so many compelling reasons to use natural household cleaning products. Not only are they considered more eco-friendly (as they don’t harm the environment), but they are also safer for our general health. I have become more mindful about products that could potentially impact my wellness – such as what we breathe in or what comes in contact with our skin. For our long-term health, I believe that chemicals can have a negative effect on our bodies. To play it on the safe side, I have decided to opt for (mostly) natural household cleaning products.
Here are some of my favorite natural household cleaning products, plus others that are highly recommended.
Natural Household Cleaning Supplies
From eliminating dust on surfaces to cleaning up spills and crumbs, one of my go-to natural household cleaning supplies is Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner. Not only is it refreshing smelling (as it has a Lemon Verbena scent), but it can be used on a variety of surfaces – from floors, kitchen counters, and bathroom sinks to walls, countertops and more. It effectively removes dirt, spills, and even light stains from all types of surfaces. Not to mention – at just $3.99 per 16-oz bottle, it’s surprisingly budget-friendly.
Natural Laundry Detergents
Since our clothes touch our skin, I’ve become more cautious about which laundry cleaning supplies I use. To effectively remove dirt, stains, and odors, I’ve come to enjoy using Seventh Generation Extra Power Plus Detergent and Trader Joe’s Liquid Laundry Detergent. The Seventh Generation product offers a 3-in-1 benefit, including detergent, stain removal, and color protection. Both products are gentle on fabrics, while efficiently cleaning clothes and towels.
Natural Liquid Dish Soaps
When washing dishes by hand, instead of using chemical-based dish soaps, I prefer using natural liquid dish soaps, such as Trader Joe’s Liquid Dish Soap. This product is free from unnecessary artificial colors and heavy fragrances. As stated on their website, “It’s also formulated to be phosphate-free and hypoallergenic (so it’s gentle on skin), and it’s biodegradable. In fact, our Dish Soap happens to be a USDA Certified Biobased product, which means that a certain percentage of its content comes from renewable biological sources—87%, to be exact.”
Other natural liquid dish soaps that I’ve enjoyed are Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Liquid Dish Soap and Seventh Generation Ultra Power Plus Dish Liquid Soap. Both are just as effective at cleaning dirty dishes.
Natural Dishwasher Detergent
For those times when I use the dishwasher, I have enjoyed the Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Gel. It contains zero fragrances, dyes, or chlorine bleach. However, it is powerful enough to get rid of grease, food particles and bacteria on dirty dishes. The formula contains plant-based ingredients that are non-toxic and rely on 100% essential oils and botanical extracts.
If you’re considering switching to using natural household cleaning products, I highly recommend trying these supplies. Not only are they effective at cleaning and disinfecting, but they are also safer for your health.
