To inspire you to update your home decor this year, here are some gorgeous 2018 home decor trends that add a luxe touch to your home. To help you incorporate the best home decor ideas into your space, today’s home decorating guide features expert tips from interior designer Lisa Melone Cloughen.
2018 Home Decor Trends
From warm neutrals (think softer whites, warm creams, and caramels) to bringing the outdoors in with natural and handmade elements, and returning to classic designs (Chinoiserie patterns are perfect for a traditional home), here are some of the best 2018 home decor trends to incorporate into your abode this year.
Home Decor Trend: Warm Neutrals
Since “people are gravitating toward welcoming and relaxing palettes,” Lisa says, “warm neutrals are big in 2018.” While she loves “the cool greys and the crisp whites, we are seeing much more of the warm neutral palette” this year.
When updating the colors in your home, she recommends using “softer whites, warm creams and caramels, light and medium intensity coupled with browns and soft blacks. Add warm reds and burnt orange shades or earthy greens and inky blues.”
A couple easy ways to add warm neutrals into your home are with cream-colored faux fur throws (which exude a sumptuous and cozy look) and neutral-colored wall art (in a cityscape motif or abstract design).
Home Decor Trend: Bring The Outdoors In
It’s a great time to add “natural and handmade elements” to your home. “Think green plants, succulents and flowers and other natural elements such as crystals, petrified woods, fossils, and handmade objects such as ceramics, textiles, and accessories.”
Some of our favorite nature-inspired home accessories are Himalayan rock salt lamps (which claim to have natural healing properties), succulent terrariums, and potted orchids (which add a luxe look to any room).
Home Decor Trend: Return To Classics
Since classic styles are timeless, incorporating these investment-worthy designs into your home is a smart idea. Lisa says, “there is also a return to certain classics, such as blue and white. It is always perfect whether it is in a formal setting with pops of strong color (like peony pink, lipstick red, or ultra-violet) or a casual setting with ticking stripes, buffalo plaids, solid linens and a simple dhurrie or more ornate Persian rug.”
If you love vintage shopping, then you’ll be happy to learn that “old is new again.” Lisa explains that her clients have been requesting the use of “more richness and layering”. “Think sofas or club chairs with plush fabrics in deep colors (like baltic blues, aubergines, deep sea or moss green) or dark neutrals (such as charcoal, chocolate, and slate blue).”
A few classic pieces we adore are a roll arm upholstered sofa and a reclaimed wood trunk coffee table.
