While we’ve all been fun playing at the beach or lounging by the pool this Summer, you might have started noticing the unpleasant effects cropping up on your delicate skin. Dreaded sun spots, discoloration, uneven skin tone, dryness, redness, and other types of skin ailments are often the undesirable results of Summers spent outdoors.

Skin Rehab Tips from The Experts

Fortunately, there are solutions to these plaguing problems. Today’s beauty guide shares end-of-Summer skin rehab tips from skincare experts across the country, including leading estheticians, beauty clinic founders, and celebrity facialists.

End-of-Summer Skin Rehab Tips from Experts

Tip #1: Prevent Signs of Aging with an Antioxidant Serum

Allison Tray (co-founder of Tres Belle Petite Medi-Spa in Brooklyn, New York) says that, “Adding an antioxidant serum to your daily skin care will help to reduce the signs of sun damage and environmental damage, as well as preventing damage in the future to the skin. Antioxidants work by breaking up the glue that holds damaged cells to gather and at the same time, they encourage rapid cell turnover for fresh new cells. What this means for your beauty is that dead dull skin is lifted away and rejuvenation is encouraged.”

In particular, Allison recommends an Allure magazine beauty favorite – Skinceuticals Phloretin CF, which she calls “the gold star product of all antioxidants”. Another popular antioxidant serum is Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster.

Tip # 2: Reveal Youthful Skin with a Resurfacing Treatment

Jill Jodar (a licensed esthetician and owner of Jill Jodar Advanced Skin Care in San Francisco, California) reminds us to get back to using resurfacing treatments. “You may have backed off or shelved your retinol, alpha hydroxy acid or another exfoliator while on vacation or spending extra time outdoors. Now is the time to get back into your routine, even out that skin tone, exfoliate those surface cells and reveal brighter fresher skin before the holidays!”

An inexpensive, but effective, drugstore retinol is ROC Deep Wrinkle Serum, while a fast-acting active fruit glycolic mask (that instantly makes your skin look radiant) is the Farmhouse Fresh Pudding Apeel.

Tip # 3: Hydrate Parched Skin with a Moisturizing Mask

Have you ever wondered how supermodels like Miranda Kerr and Irina Shayk have picture-perfect skin? They both get their famous faces pampered by Celebrity Facialist Ildi Pekar (founder of Ildi Pekar Skin Care in Manhattan, New York). Ildi says, “People don’t realize how damaging some environments could be in the summer! The air conditioning is actually very damaging to your skin, which makes your skin dry. The salt water and summer heat don’t help either. Hydrate with a homemade mask”. For end-of-Summer skin rehab, she recommends mixing 1 scoop of yogurt, 1 spoon of honey, and 1 hand full of rose petals together. Blend and apply the mixture to your skin, let sit for 15 min. Rinse with cool water. Your skin will feel hydrated and softer, plus fine lines will be less noticeable.

If you don’t have the time to create a DIY mask, try Peter Thomas Roth’s 24k Gold Mask, SimySkin Deep Hydrating Mask, or Skinn Wrinkle Soak Deep Hydrating Mask which help  moisturize, plump, and firm the appearance of skin.

Tip # 4: Boost Collagen Production with a Photofacial (or IPL)

In addition to being a celebrity facialist (for Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Eva Longoria, and more) Susan Ciminelli is the founder of the renowned Susan Ciminelli Beauty Clinic in New York City. She recommends visiting a skincare center for photorejuvenation treatment. She explains that “BBL (BroadBand Light) Photorejuvenation is ideal for improving the appearance of sun damage and aged skin. During a BBL treatment, damaged skin is exposed to intense pulses of light which stimulate collagen and elastin fibers. This treatment typically takes around 15 minutes, and helps to significantly reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as brown spots. BBL is most commonly performed on the face, however can also be performed on various other parts of the body including the shoulders, arms, and chest.”

Tip # 5: Reduce Wrinkles and Fine Lines with Red Light Therapy

If you don’t have time to head to the Dermatologist or skincare clinic for skin rehab, try a hand-held laser light device, such as the Tria Age-Defying Laser,  LightStim for Wrinkles, or Red Light Therapy from Joovv Light to help minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Scott Nelson, the co-founder of Joovv, a manufacturer of medical-grade red light therapy products that are designed for convenient, in-home use says, “Red light therapy is an excellent way to reverse some of the skin damage that your readers may have experienced from the summer sun. Backed by a robust amount of clinical evidence, red light therapy helps to reduce wrinkles, repair sun damage, fade scars, reduce inflammation, as well as many other benefits.”
