Vogue World 2027 is coming to California again, but surprisingly, this time it’s not to visit a fashion or entertainment capital. San Francisco has been named the next host city for Vogue’s roaming fashion and culture spectacle, marking the event’s first stateside stop since 2025 and a notable pivot away from the Paris-London-Milan circuit fashion insiders might have expected.

While San Francisco is often thought of as a technology hub, home to global companies like Salesforce, Uber, and Airbnb, it’s also attracted an influential group of tastemakers and trendsetters over the years.
To start with, it’s been the launching pad for renowned fashion designers (such as Alexander Wang) and popular style bloggers (including Julia Berolzheimer and Anh Sundstrom), putting the foggy city on the fashion map in a major way. Not to mention, brands like Banana Republic and Cuyana are all headquartered here as well.
Beyond all of this, the city has long been regarded as a dynamic blend of cultural attractions, designer-clad socialites, and tech billionaires who impact the world. So, it stands to reason why Vogue would want to make its mark in this influential metropolis.

The recent announcement, made by Vogue this month, positions the Golden Gate City as what the magazine calls “another booming West Coast metropolis,” a description that arrives at an interesting moment for a city more often associated in recent headlines with its tech sector and post-pandemic recovery than with runway shows.
Condé Nast chief content officer and Vogue global editorial director Anna Wintour explained the choice in a statement, and her reasoning centers less on fashion pedigree and more on civic character.
“Vogue believes in celebrating cities, and San Francisco is a city like none other,” Wintour said. “It’s a place of diverse communities living side by side, a place that loves the arts, loves creativity, and isn’t afraid of change. There’s a history of rebelliousness here, as well as incredible innovation. I love that San Francisco has always stood up for its values, and the things it believes in. We think it’s the perfect setting for Vogue World 2027.”

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie echoed that framing, tying the event to the city’s broader creative economy rather than treating it as a one-off spectacle. He said, “Vogue World will support San Francisco’s creative minds and strengthen the entire ecosystem, and it will offer another opportunity to show the world that San Francisco is on the rise.”
Vogue World launched in 2022 in New York’s Meatpacking District, pairing a street fair with a runway show to help reignite New York Fashion Week coming out of the pandemic. London followed in 2023 with an evening built around Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Paris hosted the event in June 2024 at Place Vendôme, and in October 2025, Vogue World: Hollywood was staged on the historic Paramount Studios lot.
Next up, ahead of San Francisco, is Vogue World: Milano, set for September 22 at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to open Milan Fashion Week. That edition centers on craftsmanship and human ingenuity in the age of technology. As with every prior city, Juan Costa Paz of Convoy is serving as creative director, and he’s expected to carry that role through to San Francisco as well.

Vogue hasn’t released programming details for the San Francisco edition yet, but the format has held steady across five cities. Each Vogue World is a single-day event that mixes a ticketed runway show with a public-facing street fair component, giving it a different feel than a traditional, closed-door fashion week presentation.
Front-row seats and the most intimate moments of the evening remain invite-only, reserved for editors, designers, and marquee guests. But portions of the seating and street-level experience are sold to the general public, with ticket proceeds typically directed to a cause tied to the host city. In London, that meant performing arts organizations. In Los Angeles, it was costume professionals affected by wildfires. Past cities have also seen proceeds support Olympic athletes and humanitarian programs, depending on local context.

The guest list is where Vogue World earns its headlines: supermodels, actors, athletes, and musicians sharing a runway and a crowd with local designers and civic figures. Past editions have also folded in cultural partnerships specific to each city, whether that’s a theater company in London or a costume archive in Hollywood, along with pop-up markets and brand-sponsored food activations along the street fair route.
Vogue World has become something closer to an economic and cultural statement than a straightforward fashion show at this point, generating tens of millions in event revenue while directing charitable proceeds back into the host city. For San Francisco, still working to rebuild its downtown and hospitality sectors after the pandemic, landing the event is as much a message about the city’s trajectory as it is about fashion.
No theme, venue, or date within fall 2027 has been announced yet. But based on the pattern set by New York, London, Paris, Hollywood, and now Milan, expect Vogue World: San Francisco to lean into the city’s own identity, its arts scene, its history of independence, and its role as a creative capital on the West Coast, rather than trying to import a fashion capital’s playbook wholesale.
