While most people think of beach barbecues and fireworks when they imagine a July 4th party, the truth is – it can mean a variety of things. If you’re planning to celebrate Independence Day by hosting a small, intimate July 4th party at home this year, here are some inspiring ideas and helpful tips on how to host a beautiful Stars & Stripes Celebration.
Since July 4th is an extra special day in my life (it’s actually my birthday), it often means dinner with my family and loved ones. For that reason, an intimate and festive July 4th party at home is always a fun idea (especially with easy-to-prepare dishes). To help you add a little sparkle to your July 4th party, here are some food, beverage, and decoration ideas to inspire you.
July 4th Party Food Ideas
Instead of serving traditional July 4th party food (like hamburgers and hot dogs), why not change things up and serve a healthier option instead?
Since it’s always fun to grill foods for 4th of July, salmon and veggie skewers are always a great choice. This heart-healthy, protein-packed food is easy to make (as it only takes 15 minutes on a grill), and can be served as a main entree or as an appetizer.
Start by creating kabobs (which makes it easier to cook). Lay the food on a piece of foil on top of the grill. Cook each side for about 6-8 minutes. Remove from grill and create small skewers by sticking a festive patriotic pinwheel toothpick into a small piece of salmon with veggies. Display on a serving platter and serve with a side of BBQ sauce.
Another easy, delicious appetizer to serve at a July 4th party is Mozzarella Caprese. On a serving platter, put together slices of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and fresh basil. Finish by drizzling a sweet balsamic syrup on top.
To keep your July 4th party healthy, serve a tossed mixed green salad. For added flavor and texture, add ripe cherry tomatoes and toasted honey almonds. Serve with the dressing of your choice.
July 4th Party Decorations
For a small July 4th party at home, keep things classy with tasteful party decorations.
Fresh flowers are a great centerpiece, as they bring color and vibrancy to your tablescape. Opt for white lilies as your focal point (to symbolize stars), and add lush greenery, red berries, and blue flowers (such as larkspur). Arrange your flowers in a festive patriotic vase.
Make it easy for guests to serve themselves by putting out patriotic plates and napkins, glassware, forks, and a few wine options (like a good red wine and white wine). To keep the cutlery neat and tidy, put the forks in a cute mason jar (for a vintage touch).
For an extra touch, star-shaped candles in patriotic colors add a warm ambiance to the table.
For the finishing touch to your July 4th party, turn on fun traditional music like country, rock, or blues.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy 4th of July. Cheers to freedom, patriotism, and bravery!
