Energy Upgrade California is a statewide initiative that promotes energy management concepts, energy efficiency actions, and clean energy opportunities for the state’s residents and small businesses. As shared by EUC, “Created by the California Public Utilities Commission, Energy Upgrade California believes we all have the power to create a better California.” EUC invites you to Do Your Thing™ to use energy more efficiently.

Energy Upgrade California supports “California in its quest to double energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% before 2030. All it takes to get started is the flip of a light switch or the turn of a dial. In fact, we’re already on track to getting 33% of our electricity from renewable resources by 2030.”

How To Save Energy at Home

To help you save energy in your home, here are 3 easy, energy-saving actions you can do at home.

Tip # 1: Wash Laundry in Cold Water

Energy Upgrade California encourages us to wash our laundry in cold water. They state, “About 90% of the energy used for washing clothes goes to heating the water. Use cold water when you do the laundry – which also helps prevent shrinking and fading.”

Tip # 2: Buy Energy-Saving Appliances

Energy-saving appliances (like dishwashers and laundry machines) not only save energy in your home, they also reduce your water and utility bills. Energy Upgrade California advises that “Using high-energy devices (dishwashers, air conditioners, washing machines) at low-cost times saves money and cuts the user’s carbon footprint.” In addition, they recommend doing household chores (like washing dishes and laundry) at off-peak times.

Tip # 3: Install Solar-Powered Lighting

Solar-powered lighting is ideal for decks, patios, gardens, and walkways. Not only are these energy-efficient lights easy to install, they provide ambient lighting that’s both attractive and functional.
