Since guys often say they prefer the “natural look” on women, this makeup tutorial will show you how to do easy contouring and highlighting and skin-perfecting foundation, with the help of a soft-matte foundation and contour palette by Maybelline.
Since skin should look kissably soft on Valentine’s Day (without a heavy, caked-on appearance), a soft-matte foundation (like the new Maybelline Dream Velvet) applied with a damp sponge (such as the Maybelline Dream Blender) will help you get a virtually flawless face.
Step 1: For a smooth application, run the Maybelline Dream Velvet Blender sponge under water to dampen the sponge. Then dab a small amount of Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation onto the sponge.
The latex-free, re-usable sponge tip applicator has a compact design (which makes it convenient for storing in your cosmetic bag), and the built-in handle is easy to hold. The sponge was created to provide even coverage, making your foundation look perfect every time.
Step 2: Apply the foundation all over your face, making sure to thoroughly blend and smooth the foundation into your skin. Use the sides of the applicator sponge to blend in a circle on cheeks and outward on forehead, nose, and chin. By using the sponge applicator, it helps to ensure that no lines of demarcation will be noticeable, as it blends the foundation seamlessly.

Step 3: To slim and define your face, the Maybelline Master Contour Palette will give you a more chiseled appearance in just 3 easy steps.
Using the brush included with the palette, apply the contour shade to your face in a 3 shape along your hairline, under cheekbones, and along the jaw. This might look strange at first, but once blended in, this technique will help these areas to virtually recede, making your face look more angular (like a supermodel). You can also slim the appearance of your nose by lightly brushing the contour shade along the sides of your nose.
Step 4: To accent your cheeks and give you a healthy, rosy glow, using the flat side of the brush, apply the blush directly onto the apples of your cheeks, directly above the contour (bronze) shade.
Then thoroughly blend the blush and contour shades into your skin.
Step 5: To illuminate your face (drawing light to the areas you want to embellish), use your ring finger to sweep the highlighter shade above cheekbones, on the center of your forehead, on your brow bones, in the inner corners of your eyes, and along the bridge of your nose.
This highlighting technique has also been referred to as “strobing”, which you might have heard about recently through beauty bloggers on Instagram or YouTube videos.

For the finishing touches, all you need is a swipe of lash-boosting black mascara, a thin line of black liquid eyeliner along your top lids, and a dab of pink-hued lipstick.
