Carmel-by-the-Sea

Founded in 1902, the charming coastal community of Carmel-by-the-Sea (in Central California) is a world-renowned haven for city dwellers, both near and far. Located adjacent to the majestic Pacific Ocean, just a brisk 2-hour drive south of San Francisco, the city of Carmel has long been heralded for it’s quaint architecture, awe-inspiring natural setting, and boundless epicurean delights.

Although the city has less than 4,000 residents, it’s ability to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world on an annual basis, is no small feat. Not to mention, celebrities such as Doris Day, George Lopez, and Clint Eastwood all call this little piece of Heaven their home. Unlike the streets of Hollywood, you won’t find tour buses filled with star-stalking tourists. In Carmel, renowned entertainers, elected officials, and distinguished executives can bask in the California sunshine without the concern that their privacy will be exploited.

Aside from it’s regular attractions (including a plethora of fine dining establishments, boutique wineries, dog-friendly beaches, and picturesque cottage dwellings), Carmel is also known for it’s thriving art and cultural community. The city is scattered with art galleries, live artist exhibitions, and music concerts (performed at the highly-regarded venue, The Sunset Center). Performers ranging from jazz to reggae (including Chris Botti, Ziggy Marley, and Lyle Lovett, to name a few), have performed in Carmel.

And if adventure and exploration is what piques your interest, adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities such as surfing, hiking, and kayaking (at the nearby Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and Carmel Beaches) are just a stone’s throw away.

From day to night, there’s no shortage of entertainment, activities, and indulgences to enjoy in this quintessential coastal community. You haven’t lived a charmed life until you visit Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Hi Lauren! Since I live here, it’s always fun to ‘play’ tourist on weekends here… definitely a great place to live or visit.
