Sunhee Hwang is a New York based woman’s contemporary designer in her second season.
An award winning design student in South Korea, after graduation, Sunhee Hwang attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where she was a recipient of the American Design Critics Award. After being recruited by Alber Elbaz to work at Geoffrey Beene, Sunhee went on to Anna Sui, Elie Tahari, and Anne Klein as a Senior Designer and Vice President of Design at Jones New York.
Sunhee launched her first collection in 2001, which sold to Barneys New York, Jeffery, Big Drop, and other boutiques in New York. After she launched her collection for Fall/Winter 2011, she participated in Pret a Porter in Paris and sold to online website Top Shop in London, Israel, and Turkey. Sunhee had a Spring/Summer 2011 show and was selected as a finalist and Woman’s Wear Designer 2012 from Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation.
Sunhee is quickly gaining recognition and praise from the fashion industry and major media, and has appeared on NBC New York and Rue La La, in Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Elle.com, and The New York Times to name a few.
Her new SUMMER 2012 COLLECTION is full of vibrant, colorful designs that are both modern and feminine. The designs that won her the 2012 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award in the womenswear design category were pieces from her SS2012 collection, which are now available online.
CL: Why now for the E-com site?
SH: “It has always been a dream of mine to create my own line. After years developing my own unique style, the time was right, and winning the Ecco Domani award earlier this year has reinforced that for me.”
CL: What is exciting about having your own e-Commerce site?
SH: “It is very exciting. It is a sign of my dream coming to life. All the hard work, all the hours spent developing beautiful designs, it must lead to something. A designer must bring her ideas to the market. It is the final, crucial step.”

This whimsical silk dress features an uneven hemline at the neck & skirt with shirring, frill cap sleeves & a folded ruffle side panel, center back zipper closure, double Georgette lining, and a hem that falls above the knee. This dress is available in two vibrant hues, Turquoise or Orange.
This goddess-like cross v-neck, full-length gown features a side-draped shoulder sleeve & low, v-neck back. The hem falls at the natural waist with matching elastic, and the skirt is composed of several beautiful, floor-length panels (panels are not attached). Comes in Yellow; Also available in Black.
This chic and contemporary silk chiffon sleeveless mini-dress features a shirred, halter neckline with a bodice of mesh inserted on cotton tape, and hem that falls to mid-thigh. Available in Champagne.
